• I keep getting kicked out of my site with this error message- ERROR: Cookies are blocked or not supported by your browser. You must enable cookies to use WordPress.

This is a new issue and just started happpening this week. I was using Chrome and I switched to Firefox on the recommendation of my webhost. All was well and then it happened again. Cookies are enabled in both browsers. The only way to get into my site is to clear all history and restart my computer, which obviously is not a practical solution. I also get intermittent database errors. I had database errors several months ago and discovered that Wordfence was the culprit, crashing our database. So we deleted that plugin. We’ve had no problems for months since, and haven’t added any new plug-ins.

    Can anyone help?

  • Click the menu button , choose History, and then Clear Recent History….
Set Time range to clear to Everything.
Click on the arrow next to Details to expand the list of history items.
Select Cookies and make sure that other items you want to keep are not selected.

If that does not help, disable all plugins. You can do that with ftp or the file manager your host provides. Rename the plugins folder plugins-old.

Thanks. I’ll try that. I’ve been through the disable plugins experience before, but the problem was happening constantly (the database error). If I disable all my plugins this time though, how am I supposed to run my site? This issue is so intermittent that it could take days for me to find the culprit, if there is one.

Note: the problem disappears after I restart my computer.

So that is clearly a cache issue.

Disabling plugins and then turning them one one-by-one is the only way to debug a plugin error. Likewise switching to the twentyfifteen them.

    But above you said

So if I disable them all then add them back do I have to wait in between additions to see what’s causing the error? That’s what I had to do with the database error. It took all day. I had to wait 30 minutes between each re-add, see if I had a database error, and in the meantime, the site was all wonky.

What I mean by intermittent is that there’s no rhyme or reason. It happens then I get back in then it happens again, but it’s not on a timed schedule like the database error was.

Plus I forgot to mention that it seems to be working fine in Safari.

Lastly, will switching to twentyfifteen mess up my template?

I have a custom theme based on SuperBlog.

It shouldn’t as all theme settings are kept in the database. You don’t have to wait if the cookies error goes away.

Which is another clue that it is Chrome or a Chrome extension.

    For random errors like a database. Go to the wp-config.sys file and change this, define('WP_DEBUG', false); to this define('WP_DEBUG', true);

Then if an error occurs you should get an error message.

Why not change back to Chrome. I have no idea why a host would suggest a different browser.
