• Is anyone else, using Yahoo! web hosting, having problems with their blog? Ours went down last night and has come up temporarily twice today. When I go to the URL (https://electricalblog.gilchrist-electric.com/) I get this error:
    “WordPress
    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.”

We have not made any changes and the URL is correct. According to our blog manager page in the Yahoo! web hosting control panel, we are using WordPress version 2.0.2 and upgrades are set to automatic.

I emailed Yahoo! this morning, but no reply yet. I just want to be sure it is a Yahoo! problem and not something I need to fix.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • I got the exact same error message and am not using Yahoo, but IXWebhosting.
    Should I contact them directly?
    Thanks

Same here, but your blog is up again it seems? Flavio is no bot, he is one of the more knowlegable at Yahoo. Rather, Georgia and Angel seem to be bots:

She wrote to me although I’ve already explained that it’s a php issue and not a database issue:

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Web Hosting. I appreciate you for giving me the opportunity to assist you.

I can understand that you’re eager to find a resolution to your not being able to connect to your database. I would have felt the same way if I were in your position. Unfortunately, our team of engineers is still working on fixing the issue and finding a resolution.

I am sure they will be able to find a solution soon enough. I know every minute that your database is not connected would inconvenience you, but I request you to kindly bear with us. As soon as we find a resolution, we will let you know immediately.

I again apologize for inconvenience, and appreciate your patience and understanding on this matter.

Please do not hesitate to reply if you need further assistance.

    Regards,

    Georgia

The problem is back, with a vengence. Access is sporadic at best. At worst, it takes five or six attempts just to get a blog page to render.

I’m also getting “connection dropped” errors now.

I addressed a message to Flavio, but got someone else. She has tried to be helpful, but it’s obvious that she doesn’t know much about the technical aspects of server management.

A new wrinkle was a request for my database and other admin passwords. To the best of my knowledge, these would not be necessary for someone (in their Engineering Department) with superuser access to the server.

I guess I’m going to have to just bite the bullet and switch to another provider.

Is anyone else having problems again?

I had this happen to me recently, July 4th to be precise, and I’m still getting: “Error establishing a database connection” even though I’ve changed no info, password’s are all good. I’ll have to write to them….

I am having same problems. Early this am, everything was fine. As the morning wore on, access became sporadic both for my site–succeedingtoday.com and for my admin logon:
    https://succeedingtoday.com/wordpress_1/wp-admin/index.php

Yahoo support claims this a wordpress problem and they cannot help. But, clearly something has gone wrong on the Yahoo end since I did nothing to the files today.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

I wrote to Yahoo twice, and they never responded. I’ve written to them before w/the same result. My website has been down since the 4th of this month, and I never touched or changed a thing, it’s completely on their end. They’re treating WordPress as third party, I’m assuming, and if something fails, they let it go at that. The problem is, is that they install it for you, leavng you in the dark as far as the database/passwords, etc. so it’s unfixable, and I’m sure what to do at this point. I’ve called them before and it was a waste of an hour. Any help???
