I’m trying to install WordPress but no matter how many times I check the wp-config.php file, it keeps saying…

“Error establishing a database connection. This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at {my server name here}. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

The server is up. My site already is using the db which has other tables in it. I’ve set the prefix in the wp-config file so wp won’t conflict with any of my pre-existing tables.

My host is 1and1.com and I already have a wp blog installed using a different db.

    Any ideas?

  • If the username and password are correct, another common thing people tend to look over is when not localhost is used for the databaseaddress.
