Error establishing a database connection

    I accidentally set subdomains mode instead of subdirectories mode during installation. This was very much what I did not want to do.

    I edited wp-config.php to say…

    define( 'SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL', false );

    … but now am getting “Error establishing a database connection” when I go to the new subdirectory sites.

    How do I fix this?

  • check the database details in wp-config.php I bet you have changed them when you edited the file.

    Done it myself many times, normally by uploading a fresh copy and forgetting to put the details back in..

    Ah, never mind. I had previously used the same directory name and it had an old WordPress installation sitting in it.
