Error establishing a database connection

    Error establishing a database connection is the error message i get when i goto any page within my site except for the home page.

    I am getting the following error message when i goto wp-admin.php.

    Can’t select database
    We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the mvm_wrdp1 database.

    Are you sure it exists?
    Does the user mvm_wrdp1 have permission to use the mvm_wrdp1 database?
    On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_mvm_wrdp1. Could that be the problem?
    If you don’t know how to set up a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.

    When i goto to the mysql page and tried resolving the database it gave me the following message

    I would be really grateful even if someone can just help to get the content from the site, so i can put that content in a fresh installation of word press..

  • Try using phpmyadmin to repair/optimize the databse. And do you have a database backup? Ask your host if they have a backup for you.

    how to repair/optimize the database using phpymyadmin ?? and i spoke to my host, and they don seem to have any backup… they said they can backup right now if i wanted..

    will i be able to do anything with that backup ?? will i be able to get the contents from my site anyway ??

    that is all i want from that site.. only the contents.. just an xml export of the content..

    is there anyway to do it ?? or anyway to fix the above problem ?? which ever is simple and doable !

    You may need to repair the database, which is a bit different from optimizing.

    Access your WordPress database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in their control panel), check all of the tables, and choose “Repair tables” from the pull-down menu.

    hi James,
    i tried doing as you said, it says successfully repaired tables..

    but, still the site shows the same database error..

    Not the greatest webhost if they don’t have a backup.

    Try backing up your database and see if that works OK:
