  • It means what is says. WordPress stores data (posts, pages, user credentials, etc.) in a database. Access to that database is configured during installation. If WordPress can’t connect to that database post-installation, it throws an error. Usually, this happens either because something is not working right on the database server or because access rights to the database have been changed.

Do you have any other information about this error? Can you view the public site?

This just happened to me as well. And no – you can’t view the public site. That was the first thing that told me something was wrong. I had gone to myPHPAdmin and logged into the database – but then logged out without doing anything. I can only assume that this is when something went wrong. Is there a switch or toggle to re-open the database after having logged in? I just went back to myPHPAdmin and logged back in and it looks fine in there (as far as I can tell). Just can’t get to my site.
