    Hello,
Lately our website has been sporadically displaying the Error establishing a database connection error. It seems to happen a handful of times daily.

I checked the error logs from the server and I keep seeing this error:
mod_fcgid: stderr: Error reading config data, configuration file could be corrupted.

In case it’s relevant, we are using a GoDaddy shared hosting account.

I can’t verify that it’s related to WordFence, but I did see a few other posts containing similar errors.

Any insight as to what might be causing the errors would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards.

  • Hi,

mod_fcgid is an Apache error. Are you seeing that referenced in the Wordfence logs? It could be caused by any number of things.

Try disabling all plugins and see if you still get a database connection error. Check that your database credentials are correct, and finally try a MySQL repair.

    Thanks for the response.

I double checked the database credentials and ran a database repair using phpMyAdmin. I’ve also disabled all plugins that aren’t essential to the website. However, the problem is pretty inconsistent (most of the time the website works fine) so I can’t say for certain if it has had an affect yet.

I did noticed the version of PHP we’re running is 5.2.17, which is lower than the recommended version. I’m wondering if that might be a factor as well.

Since I can’t verify the issue is related to WordFence I’ll go ahead and mark this topic as resolved.
