Error establishing a database connection

  • Hi there. i have created a database in phpmyadmin and then in my wwww folder in my wamp server folder on my harddrive i have installed the wordpress files in a seperate folder, i then put the database details in my wp-config.php files. I then went through localhost to install my word press then after putting in the database details it comes up with the error “Error establishing a database connection” – please advise me how i can correct this. i have checkeed that the database details are correct on wp-config.php.

    Try removing all the changes you made to the wp-config file and go ahead with the installation (i.e putting in the database details with the WP installer).

    thanks for your assistance. i did what you suggested. the error code that now appears is

    Can’t select database – We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the point database.

    In your wp-config.php file, instead of localhost try to use localhost:<port number> ex:
    localhost:8000.
