• Hey all, I’m sorry if this has been posted before, I searched all around, couldn’t find much.
    Anyway:

I’ve been running my wordpress out of my own paid hosting, https://endondemierdaesta.nicolasgombinsky.com/wordpress/

It was up and running perfectly, its been working without problems for months… and then the hosting people had some problem, and after they fixed it, the website is now like that: “Error establishing a database connection”. The hosting people say that they have already fixed their side of the problem, so its not their problem now.

I checked the wp-config.php and it still shows “localhost” and the parameters seem to be correct… but I cannot even enter the config panel.

That is all I can say right now. I am not a web developer by any chance, I know some basics, and I’m completely new to wordpress, so, please, be gentle!

Thank you all for any kind of help, and again, sorry if this has already been posted.

    Cheers,
    Nick

  • log in to host’s phpmyadmin
    select database
    check mark wp_options table
choose “repair” from drop down at bottom of page
    should be ok now

Thanks for the reply… unfortunately the database isn’t managed by myphpadmin, its a MSSQL database and can’t be repaired. I asked the hosting guys to check if they had a backup or something, they didn’t, and they checked the database just in case. Its all blank.

Does this mean I lost all my posts or just the connections to it?

did you mean mysql? thats what DB wordpress uses. phpmyadmin is simply an interface to work with the database. Why can’t it be repaired? If it is truly blank, you could have a real problem. Your host will definitely need to investigate

Yup, I pretty much don’t know anything about how wordpress works… I just installed it in a subdomain in my paid hosting so I could have my own address without having to work redirections and stuff… I guess I’m suffering the consequences…

And my host couldn’t care less, so you can imagine how smilie I am right now…

If your host lost your database, and doesn’t care to help you too much. You should switch to better hosting. I know hindsight is a PITA…

In the future (I know, no help now) there aredb manager plugin which will automatically back up your DB, save a copy on your server, and even email you a copy

Thanks for all the info and tips guys, its time now to go weep in fetal position, for all my trip overseas with amazing stories captured in (ink?) has been confirmed to be lost forever.

    Cheers!

    I just experienced this myself
Site works for few month and out of the blue this error happened

    I followed Samuel B advice:
    log in to host’s phpmyadmin
    select database
    check mark wp_options table
choose “repair” from drop down at bottom of page
    should be ok now

And hey presto all is well now!

However I would love to know what made it happen in the first place if anyone can shed some light on this…

I wanted to post a “thank-you” since the above steps worked for me too – despite a more convoluted setup (iPower hosting) I was able to figure it out – thanks!!!

See following step by step guide to fix this error:
