I have seen this topic in many places, but most of them are for new installs. This error seems to have popped up in the last couple hours, and I’m too new to mySQL and cPanel to know what’s going on.

    I get the error below:

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.
    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

What is very strange is that it bypasses the log-in page and goes straight to the error. I’m guessing the DB server is down, but cPanel says it’s up. mySQL seems to read ok as well.

Not only is the log-in and admin page down, but the entire site is down. If I go to the site (https://systematicHR.com) I get the same error. Therefore it’s not just an admin thing.

How do I figure out what’s going on? I’m just waiting a few hours and hoping the DB server comes back up. If not, I’ll be mystified why it worked one day, and not the next. Have made no changes to config other than CSS files and a plug-in that allows me to easily footnote and reference my posts.

    Thanks!!!

  • Since I wanted to move from one sub-dir to another and my ftp client wouldn’t let me do a “copy”, I had to download my server version of my WP blog and upload it to the new sub-dir that I had “already” set the path to inside WP. At least I coulda swore 99% that I set the new path first but either my cache, my mind, or something got it all screwed up. When I started thinking aout it, all I needed to do was download and then upload to the new sub-dir (since my Filezilla wouldn’t let me copy).

ot- the ftp thing got me thinking about hosting real quick, I’m a first time blogger, went with DreamHost based on this site and others but I tell you they SUCK for responding to HELP msgs, I’m still waiting from 3 days ago via their forum, I sent them an email and still haven’t heard from them, my advice, try GoDaddy or something YMMV

I am able to install wp blog on domian using Hosting controller panel by modifying wp-config.php file with 127.0.0.1 . but all the time I have to do this for every new domain……. How can I globally set this or what kind of issue is this

    it’s urgent
