Error Establishing Database Connection

    I’m running the wordpress install from scratch. I enter the information in wp-setup and click submit and I get the error establishing database connection. I’m using MAMP

    I don’t know why I’m getting this message. I have created the wordpress database – new_wordpress

    I’ve created the user name and password which I can use to connect in mysql from a shell

    Host is localhost:8888

    any other suggestions?

    I switched from Apache to Nginx and it connected.

    So it works now? Sounds more like a MAMP problem to me, which does not provide the necessary database libraries for Apache-based PHP. If you still have problems with this, it’s best to contact a MAMP community.
