Error Importing WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR)

    I am trying to import an 8.9 meg WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR) file into a new installation of WP2.3b2 when I get the following error: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 72876032) (tried to allocate 3171 bytes) in /wordpress/wp-admin/import/wordpress.php on line 115

    I’ve set the memory_limit to:
    memory_limit 900M

    All my posts are by the same author. Is there some other way that I can cut this file down in size?
