error in database connection but only 1/2 the time!

  • I’ve searched the codex and the forum and I can’t seem to find an answer.

    My blog is behaving curiously, sometimes working just fine and sometimes displaying the following error:

    “Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.”

    It fluctuates on and off between working and not working but I can’t see any pattern to it. I haven’t touched the php files for months. (Problem began today.) I’m using a very old version of WordPress, version 1.2. Perhaps this a problem with my host?
