I added a button group to the Header Template Part. It looks fine, and it functions fine on the pages of the website. However, when I look at it in the Site Editor, there is an error message in the visual editor: “There are no blocks in this group, please add one”.

Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

  • Hi @jcomanda!

I did a quick test to add a button block to a site header using Twenty Twenty-Two and it seems to work as expected.

Could you please confirm the theme you are using (I checked everygoodgift.org but could not tell what theme it is) and share a screenshot of what this error looks like in the Site Editor?

    Thank you!

    Thank you for your help.

I am using a child theme of Blockbase.

How do I share include a screenshot? I had one prepared, but I couldn’t figure out how to use it.

    More information.

I prepared this Button Group (from Stackable, in case that matters) in a test page and then made it a reusable block as a way of “transferring” it the Header Template Part and then converted it back to a regular block. I also tried copying it in code view. It all looks good–and also works, but the full-site editor continues to have this error.

I thought of a way to make the screenshots available to you.

I have a PDF that you can open at this link. It contains screenshots that demonstrate the issue.

    Hi @jcomanda

I am using a child theme of Blockbase. I prepared this Button Group (from Stackable, in case that matters)

On a test site using the Blockbase theme(not child) + Gutenberg blocks, I cannot reproduce this issue.

This might be related to the plugin you used to create the group blocks or another resource you have on your site. Have you checked to see if the blocks provided by Gutenberg work as expected?

If they do you might need to get in touch with Stackable developers.

    Hey @jcomanda,

Thank you for the additional details.

I prepared this Button Group (from Stackable, in case that matters)

I replicated the process you described to create a reusable block with a group and then added it to my site header but it worked as expected.

Does the same thing happen if you try a “core” block such as the default buttons block?

I’ll let you guys know when I have a chance to do that test. Thanks for your help.

Well, I did some testing. It is true that none of the other controls, including the “core” buttons block, create this problem. I actually have three Stackable icon groups (called “button groups” in the list view), and all of them exhibit the same problem in the full site editor (but not when editing the header template part or on the actual website). I removed them all, and my “site” finally appeared normally (not distorted) in the full site editor. I tried adding in a new Stackable icon group directly in the full site editor, and the phenomenon reoccurred.

It looks pretty conclusive that it’s not the full site editor per se. Thanks to both of you for helping me think through this issue. Maybe next time I will even think of trying this on my own.

By the way, is there a way to send screenshots in this forum? I never did figure out how to do it. Instead I made a PDF with screenshots available from my website.

Sounds great, I am glad that you managed to pinpoint the issue.

My apologies for not providing this information beforehand, any screenshots you take can be uploaded to a site like https://snipboard.io/. The site will provide a link which you can share with us here.

    You are welcome @jcomanda!

Since this does not seem to be related to Gutenberg itself, I am going to mark it as resolved.
