When removing some google adsense from my index template I must have somehow deleted something or did something to cause an error. Because. . . when I updated and then went to view my blog I received the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENDIF in /home/info303/public_html/wp-content/themes/iris/index.php on line 85

Can someone please tell me where I can go to correct this and what to do once I get there? I cannot get back into the template through the WP dashboard. . . or rather, if I can, I don’t know how to do so. (lost internet connection while attempting to determine error in template through the dashboard) Now, when I try to go to my site all I get is the above error message.

    Thank you much,
    Charlsie (www.manifestinguniverse.com)

  • A link wouldn’t help, we cannot see it if it’s a .php file.

Just open it in a plain text editor (like Notepad) and Save as… whatever.txt file. Then upload that whatever.txt file to your server/host and give us the URL to it.

Hmm. Y’know, mostly this sort of thing can be solved by simply uploading the relevant file from a clean download of the theme file. Unless you did some REALLY wonky tweaks in index.php, it shouldn’t be a problem.

If you don’t have the index.php from the relevant theme, just try uploading the same file from the default theme.

Keep a backup on your hdd of all the wp-content/themes/*relevant theme*/ files just to be safe.

Yes, I did lots of tweaking. . . well, removing of some things and adding other things.

What I am going to do is compare what is on the original theme index file to what I now have showing in the index file in cpanel. (tomorrow!)

Too tired to attempt the process of creating new file and uploading and such.

I thank each of you for taking the time to assist me with this. With the bits of info you each have provided I believe I’ll be able to figure it out.

    Thanks, again. . . Charlsie

Well, post back tomorrow, let us know how it’s going, okay?

Found it!!! This was missing. . .
    <?php endwhile; else: ?>

It belonged just 2 lines above the line the error message referenced.

I had looked and looked previously. Until I got good direction from each of you I just could not see it.

Now, I am back in business and can go get some much needed rest! Thank you each so very much! Charlsie

Hey, that’s great to hear! Happy blogging, then….
