Error in WordPress 2.8.5 ???

have you deactivated all plugins?
if so, try adding this line to your wp-config.php

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '64M');

I deactivated all plugins and update the wordpress
it worked without adding the code in wp-config.php
