• Hello,

When I activate Redirection, and then add a URL, e.g.

    http:/domain.com/page/

    redirecting to:

    https://domain.com

    I get this error:

    “Invalid group when creating redirect”

If I select Groups on the Redirection Settings page, and try to create a group, no group is created and I get this error (status) message:

    “Please specify a group name”

This happens no matter what I name a new group.

    So I cannot create redirects.

    Thank you for the help.

    Chris

    Hey everyone,

I don’t get this error on all subsites on the multisite network.

This is happening on just a couple of them.

I noticed that on the working sites, when I go to create a redirection there is a “Redirection” group already populating the Groups drop down.

This Group drop down is NOT populated with anything on the problem sites.

    Hey everyone,

    I’am getting the same issue.
Is there anything I can do to fix that up ?
    Thanks,

    MAx

    Hey guys,

Try to install the plugin copy from Github,

    https://github.com/johngodley/redirection

It fixed the above issues for me,

    Hope that helps ??

    Problem Solved

    Hi Frnds,

    In Redirection Plugin

First go to redirection plugin page. There you find tabs “redirect, groups and modules etc.”

First go to “groups” tab on that tab below find add group add your domain name.

    ex: https://www.example.com

    Then select “wordpress” click “add”

Now group created. Then again go back to redirect tabs

add source url and redirect url

then select group what we created “www.example.com” click Add Redirection

    Now its work

    Thanks

    Hey Sunillion,
Thank you so much, this worked for me too.

    Sunilion,

Thank you, as it solved the issue for me too.

It didn’t work for me, but I have a third-level domain, may it be a problem?

Same issue. The above resolution did not work form me either.
No way to add a group, always getting “Please specify a group name”.
Thus I cannot create any redirection.
It works on my localhost test site but not on my online site (exact same configuration and plugins). Tried pretty much everything found here and in other posts related to the same problem.
    No resolution from the author?
It seems to be a real recurring issue for months if not years.

I have used this plugin on countless websites, but this is the first time I’ve encountered this. What is the purpose for this change? As I’m working on a dev URL, I’ll now have to change the domain before launch…

    I found what it was.
The reason was that the user operating the SQL databases had only read-write privileges. Thus the 4 Redirection tables (wp_redirection_404.sql, wp_redirection_groups.sql, wp_redirection_items.sql, wp_redirection_logs.sql) could not be created.
Setting it as administrator resolved the issue.

Maybe a better error handling with a more explicit error message (“Please specify a group name” doe snot tell anything) would have helped.

I decided to completely remove the plugin and installing again. Before that, an error was displayed when trying to create groups.
