• Hi there, I finally upgraded from 2.0.2 to 2.0.4 and immediately hit an error message, before even running the upgrade file (but I did press upgrade).

I got the following error message:

Warning: fopen(/home/petite/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/cache/wp_cache_mutex.lock) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/petite/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-cache/wp-cache-phase2.php on line 79

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/petite/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-cache/wp-cache-phase2.php:79) in /home/petite/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/pluggable-functions.php on line 272

as instructed in teh codex, I deleted the content/cache folder (and this wasn’t backed up at all)

What can I do to fix this error message, any ideas? Something of an emergency!

  • deactivate the wp-cache plugin.

I will add that I had also de-activated all my plugins as instructed.

i went in to turn it back on, thinking it would solve things, but I can’t de-activate or activate any plugins now as it just churns out lists of error messages

ok, go into the wp-content/plugins folder, and delete wp-cache and everything inside it. (do that from ftp or ssh, or however you typically upload/delete files).

I think I figured this one, I just needed to create a blank “cache” directory to replace the one I had deleted. Found the answer in the plugin’s own read me.

    Phew.

I hope this can help someone else!

it appears as though you never deactivated that plugin. glad you’re sorted

Just a follow up on this, I had exactly the same problem, deleting the plugin made zero difference + there was no server move *NOR* upgrade, it just started happening (note I’m on my own box, there was no background changes either). The trick was to delete the contents of the cache directory…all of it, and bam, everything works again…I’d I’ll never, ever use WP-Cache again as long as I live ??
