i did notice that emails are only being sent if the user has a gmail account. if it’s yahoo or something else, it will not go through.

Your configuration is broken. You need to enter a Sender email address. And you need to use HTTPS, not SMTP. I suggest running the wizard and letting it configure your settings.

That’s not my plugin doing that. There should be a giant red notice that says the plugin is not sending mail.
