I can’t get images to upload to my site. No problems previously, but I had been away for a few months and not updated the site until this week. On trying to upload an image to the media libray I got this error message.

“Unable to create directory uploads/2016/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server”

I checked the forum for other posts mentioning the same problem and tried the remedies suggested. They didn’t work for me.

I changed permissions on /wp-content directory and sub folders to 775. No joy. Changed again to 777. No joy. Changed back to 775. Nothing doing. Still getting the same error message

I have manually created an 04 folder in uploads/2016, and given it 775 permission status. Still getting the same error message.

Has anyone got the solution to this problem?

OK. Problem overcome. Service provider had upgraded my site to a new server and changed the path to the uploads directory. The directory they had put my images in was not on my domain, and therefore I could not change the permissions.

When I changed the upload path to the correct directory on my own domain I could upload, but all my earlier images disappeared from the site pages. I’ve asked the service provider to move the contents of the uploads directory to the correct address so that I have all my old images and can upload new stuff.
