We disabled “Require final confirmation on checkout” and little did we know this completely broke the express checkout experience and has been broken for weeks when customers try and use the express PayPal buttons on the product page.

Upon testing when I attempt to use the express PayPal button on the product page it opens the PayPal modal and upon attempting to pay I get the following error:

Looking at my error logs I get the following:
Error Order approve failed: Failed to create WooCommerce order: No shipping method has been selected.

How can this plugin be so continually and consistently broken on every single update?

    Hello @jethrohazelhurst

Thank you for reaching out with your concern.

We’ve received a similar report internally from another user, but we haven’t yet had the opportunity to fully investigate the matter. Based on what we know so far, the issue seems to have appeared after updating the PayPal Payments plugin to a version higher than 2.9.0.

I suggest performing a full conflict test to rule out any potential issues with the theme or other plugins.

I would recommend to reproduce the issue with sandbox account, then here’s what you can do:

    1. Temporarily activate the default theme Storefront.
    2. Disable all other plugins except for WooCommerce and PayPal Payments.
    3. Test the checkout process again to see if the issue persists.

If the problem goes away, re-enable the plugins one by one to identify which one is causing the conflict.

Alternatively, you can analyze the issue more thoroughly by opening a ticket with our support desk. Here’s how you can request support: Request Support. Please make sure to include the URL of this thread in your ticket for reference.

It’s challenging to fully prevent issues like this in a WordPress environment, where there are so many potential edge cases and third-party plugins that can trigger various problems. Before releasing an update, we run our plugin through many test cases in QA, but it’s impossible to replicate every user’s unique setup. The issue you mentioned isn’t widespread, so we kindly ask for your understanding in this matter.

Let us know how we can assist further!

    Kind Regards,

    Hello @inpsydekrystian ,
I’m experiencing the same error on my ecommerce, using version 2.9.3, and we spent lot of time to investigate after a user reported it. Here the log, I cannot say if it is the main reason of the bug, anyway that’s what we think is the main possibility.

ERROR Order approve failed: Failed to create WooCommerce order: No shipping method has been selected.

I disabled all plugins, the error persists using Paypal with capture intent. It does work with authorize intent.
Have you had a chance to investigate the error further to get a fix?

I know there are so many variables and plugins on wordpress that make it really hard to keep everything in order, however it is quite critical that a crucial component like paypal integration is so unstable with each update.

    Thank you for your support
    Best regards
