error – not allowed to edit posts

  • Hi all. Fairly new to wordpress but don’t have the funds to pay someone more knowledgeable. I have been trying for days to get my site up and running but every time I go into edit a page or post I get this error:
    Pages : Sorry, you are not allowed to edit posts in this post type.
    Posts: Invalid post type.

    Not sure how I went wrong as all I did was install wordpress and choose a theme (twenty-sixteen).

    I have made 2 websites now using wordpress and haven’t had this problem before. Can someone shed some light on my issue. TIA

    Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Sixteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

    Hey Tara, thanks for your reply. It currently is at default without any plugins installed. It is right at the very beginning of wordpress installation. I thought it may have been my browser but…. I have tried it on 3 different ones (opera, mozilla and explorer) and still the same problem.

    turns out to be a bad install. Uninstalled and reinstalled and everything is working fine.

    Hi, I got similar errors the other day. Installation worked fine on monday night, on tuesday I got the errors. The site has been running fine for over two years. Updating to 4.8 did not solve the problem.

    When trying to edit drafts i get “Sorry, you are not allowed to edit posts in this post type.”

    When trying to create a new post I sometimes (or just by clicking “Posts->All posts”) i get: “Invalid post type”.

    Also the boxes with Publish buttons, post types etc are empty, just a dotted line box or completely missing. Sometimes I can access the post list but its empty even though the number above it says there are numerous posts.

    No problems editing or publishing from wordpress.com or the iOS App.
