If you used external SMTP to send mail (instead of PHP mail()), you should check this plugin to enable external SMTP again: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/

I never configured the direct SMTP functionality.

Is your WordPress sending emails in general (not any plugin)? If you do not know, check out https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/check-email/

Ah, that was a great troubleshooting tool.

So, what I found out was that email sent to outside domains (not that site) worked fine, but inside that domain, not at all. Knowing that was then not a CForms or WP error, I dug deeper. Seems there were some missing MX and TXT records. Once I added those in, all is well.
