    HI,

I am having a problem updating WordPress from 4.0 to 4.0.1. It says “Could not copy file.: wordpress/wp-includes/js/media-views.js”. I checked the file permission and found it is 644, so I believe it should be fine. Is there anyone having the same or similar issue, or having any clue?

I haven’t seen people having this issue, but download a fresh copy of WordPress 4.0.1, and unzip it. Then access your site files either through FTP or your hosting file manager. Upload the entire wp-includes folder of the new WP files to your site, overwriting the old files.

That should take care of the problem.

Hi Bet, Didn’t think of manual upload. It did solve the problem. Thank you!

Word Press has automatically updated my site to 4.0.1. https://www.durantbiblecollegeonline.org/ I am now unable to sign into my site. Any tips?

@durantbiblecollege: please start your own post per forum guidelines. Your issues may be very different from the original poster, and we use posts with “no replies” to find new problems.

Here’s some initial troubleshooting, but if these don’t work, start a new post outlining what you have already tried.

    Have you tried:

    • flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.
    • deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin (read “How to deactivate all plugins when you can’t log in to wp-admin” if you need help). Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder. The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old
    • switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule out any theme-specific problems. If you can’t log in to change themes, you can remove the theme folders via FTP so the only one is twentyfourteen. That will force your site to use it.
    • manually upgrading. When all else fails, download a fresh copy of the latest.zip file (top right on this page) to your computer, and use that to copy up. You may need to delete the wp-admin and wp-includes folders on your server. Read the Manual Update directions first.
