Error: page cannot be displayed when activation link is clicked

I followed this post: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/simplemodal-login-registration-form-is-not-working-with-buddypress

This finally fixed the “all fields are required” error message but now when a new user registers and click on the activation link from their email they get “the page cannot be displayed”. I am assuming this is another issue because of buddypress taking over the activation page. How do I fix this please?
