I am running the most recent wordpress version with a custom wordpress theme called “blend”. Every time I try to upload a picture (regardless of file size or dimension)I get this error.

I have my permissions set to 755, and manually created the “upLoads” folder within the wp-content file. It was not already there, I also went to the media setting and put the upload file path in as the default (leading to the uploads folder) but have found no change.

  • Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

I changed the permissions in fireFTP for wp-content to each of the suggestions and did not find anything that works.

I should mention that in attempting to add new links to the site i get this:

“Thank you for creating with WordPress. | Documentation | Feedback

    Version 3.0.4″

Note: after trying that fix, my site only displays blank, white pages

What exactly is the error message?

the error message that displayed when i tried to upload media was “Error saving media attachment” and the only thing that displayed when I tried to add new links was the aforementioned phrase in my previous post (in quotes).

I have received no other error messages and now the site displays only blank pages

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    – increasing the memory available to PHP?

okay, now the theme has a whole new set of problems, it’s now saying it’s no “widget aware” and widgets have been working for the last two days….what could be going on to cause this?

I have no plug-ins at all

this comes up whenever I attempt to change anything with the themes

how can this keep on changing on it’s own?

edit: i’m deleting everything and downloading another fresh copy of wordpress. I haven’t done much to it so, it won’t take long for me to see if the problems persist.

Yeah on a clean upload, without and themes installed i’m still getting the error. I did however get a few messages about files already existing even though I deleted them.

the theme I was using before was “blend” found here https://www.freewpthemes.net/wordpress-themes/25/

What theme are you currently using?

    Thread Starter Kusuriurite

    (@kusuriurite)

after the clean install, twenty ten.

i was using “Blend” found here: https://www.freewpthemes.net/wordpress-themes/25/

I’d avoid any themes from freewpthemes.net. Try another theme from the Theme Repository – preferably one that has been updated in the last 3 – 6 months.

Okay, though i am still not able to upload media onto twenty ten. I’m more than willing to stick with this one until I find out the problem.

below is a numbered list of all the things on the suggested thread and my actions relating to them.

1.) clean install of wordpress from this site. no uploads folder in wp-content but no other discerned missing directories. problem still persists.

2.)cleared cache, restarted computer just for good measure. problem still persists.

    3.)updated flash player, problem persists.

4.) no plugins installed. it’s a clean install.

    5.)no plugins installed.

6.)attempted to create file in fireFTP, clicked create and it dissapeared.

7.) tried a very small image, (less than 50 px) problem persists.

8.)not uploading of images at all, invalid.

    9.)no custom setting, clean install.

Do any of these images actually get uploaded to the uploads folder? Have you checked via FTP? If not, perhaps this is a folder ownership – rather than folder permissions – issue.

I have my permissions set to 755, and manually created the “upLoads” folder within the wp-content file.

Can you delete that uploads folder, set the permissions on wp-content to 777 and try another upload?

at the moment from the most recent install, the directory “uploads” does not exist. as of reading your post, I have now created it manually in wp-content and added a media file to it through FTP successfully, though when I look on wordpress under media. it is not displayed.

and no, none of the files i have gotten this error with exist within the folder either.

your final idea, did work. the image is now within the newly created folder.

do I have to keep it set to 777, since it is not secure.
