“Error: Sidebar Widgets for Shortcodes with sidebarid widgets_for_shortcodes is empty (no widgets) or is not defined.”

I get this when I try to save the page. I have two widgets that are definitely there, and they even render fine when i press preview instead of save.

    What gives?

    [do_widget id=blog_subscription-9]
    [do_widget id=wpcom_social_media_icons_widget-4]

That does sound weird – if post preview works (basically saves a revision so not that different) it should be fine.

Maybe something is calling /applying content filters before the sidebars are defined – long shot.

Does it happen with default theme and no other plugins active ?

Yea, quite a few plugins active… The theme is stock genesis. Let me know if i can send you any logs.

Yep, it saves fine and publishes. It’s just I have to back out from the error page every time I do and edit and update.

    Hi
I am unable to recreate the problem at all, not even with the genesis framework and sample theme.

It sounds like something is adding a hook to the edit or save process and is applying the content filters (which activates the shortcode do_widget). Most likely the widgets shortcodes sidebar is not defined (gets defined on widgets init – no reason that would fire on a save post). Hence the message displaying but otherwise fine on normal view.

I imagine a plugin may for example be wanting to expand all the content (ie apply all the filters) to do something with it, or chcek it perhaps.

It’s very hard to get around this if I cannot make it happen. I have tweaked those debug messages in version 2.8 and they should not display unless one has requested do_widget_debug in the url.

Let me know how it goes. If you feel up to exploring then BEFORE upgrading, you could do a quick – deactivate all other plugins – do a post update. If the problem goes away, then you know it’s definitely one of those plugins. If it doesnt go away, then it may still be a dropin plugin or the genesis child theme. Could swop theme to default.

or just upgrade ?? and let me know if the tweaks sorted it or if something is still showing.

Thanks man! What you say makes sense. If it was just a debug message, it sounds like you might have fixed it. Will keep an eye on it when you update.

in the new version the error that shows up after clicking preview is:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/unikur5/public_html/wp-content/plugins/amr-shortcode-any-widget/amr-shortcode-any-widget.php:186) in /home/unikur5/public_html/wp-admin/post.php on line 242

This is just FYI. It still seems to save ok.
