I updated today wp-staticstics to the new version 11.0 and Im now getting the following error message at the end of each of my sites:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_USE, expecting T_FUNCTION in /xyz/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-statistics/vendor/s1lentium/iptools/src/IP.php on line 10

What can I do, to solve this problem?

What version of PHP are you running?

I’ve got the same error message.
The web should be running on PHP 5.3.29
(running a higher version of PHP broke some of the sites still running on the hosting) ??

Any solution (except downgrading the plugin)?

No, I’ve done some more investigation and it looks like PHP 5.4 is going to be the requirement for newer version of WP Statistics.

PHP 5.3 has been out of support for over 2 years, even 5.4 has been out of support for over a year, it seems like reasonable minimum version at this point.

I moved the site to a different hosting with PHP v5.4.45 in order to still use WP Statistics.
    Thanks for the swift reply.

No problem, I’m doing an update to make soon so the 5.4 requirement is better documented.

@flico, double check your version in Statistics->Optimization->Resources/Information->Version Info.

    Its now ok!
I looks like, that the server has needed some time to do the php update.
So I can now say, unter 5.6.12 it’s running fine. My old version was 5.2.17 (which caused the error)

So thanks for your very fast help Greg!

I found the old version, as update 11.0 isnt working.

but I guess, the 10.3 cant be installed again without uninstalling 11. and that pobably would mean I would lose all the old data, its such a pity, the update caused all that trouble

You can uninstall the new version without loosing your data, by default all of your configuration and statistics data remains after removal.

Only if you select to remove the data is it deleted.

Is there a reason version 11 is not listed on the plugin frontpage? Are there other bugs in 11 other than not working with ancient PHP versions?

I paused 11.0 while I reviewed the issue, there are no other problems with 11.0 other than the PHP 5.4 requirement so if you have it installed and working your fine to keep it.

I’ll restart the rollout once I’ve decided the best way to handle the PHP 5.4 requirement.
