I am trying to set up my WordPress site to use WP Mail SMTP using the Gmail API.
I am using WordPress 5.5.1, WP Mail SMTP Version 2.3.1

I have previously set this up successfully on another website that I manage. The current website and the other website share many characteristics, including the same theme, and many of the same plugins.

However, on the current website, after I’ve followed your instructions on how to set up the Gmail API (it’s an exceptionally arcane interface — not your fault!), and I think I got everything set up correctly, pasted in the Client ID, Client Secret into the WP Mail SMTP setup page, and copied the Authorized redirect URI from that page to the Gmail API. Then, I’m supposed to click on the orange “Allow plugin to send emails using your Google account” button. I did that, and followed your directions again, but in the final step, after I’ve chosen the proper Google account, and it says that that account “wants to access your Google Account”, so I clicked on the “Allow” button. After a short delay, all I get is a page that says:

    Unauthorized

    Back

That’s it. No hint about what the error might be. I can’t confirm authorization, so I can’t send emails through this.

I’m pulling my hair out. It’s probably something I’ve not set up correctly in the Gmail API, but that is so arcane, I can’t figure out what I might have done wrong.

Your help in solving this would be much appreciated!
