I have been working with the free Paid Memberships Pro plugin, but in this last update it sends me an error that had never come out. “Update failed: You must enter a valid license key for PMPro and then Settings> License to update this add on.”

Why does this happen if I am with the free version?

  • Same issue here. Had to download the zip file from here and then use this plugin to allow overwriting the current folder: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/

The problem has been fixed. A few minutes ago I tried updating again and there were no problems. I don’t know what this may be due. Regards!

Just tried and it’s still a problem. Please advise

Hi there. Sorry about this. PMPro has code to check with our license server to see which add ons are served from our premium license server and which are on .org. I accidentally made an update to our license server that marked the core paid-memberships-pro as a Plus Add On.

I fixed this a few hours later, but both PMPro and WordPress caches the update information in various places. Clicking the “Check Again” button from the updates page should force the caches to be replaced.

You can also delete the meta_key = “pmpro_addons” entry from wp_options table. This will delete the PMPro portion of the cache.

Another work around would be to delete the /plugin/paid-memberships-pro/ folder from your site via FTP (DO NOT DELETE THE PLUGIN FROM THE PLUGINS PAGE IN THE DASHBOARD – THIS WILL DELETE ALL RELATED PMPRO DB DATA). Once the plugin folder is gone, you can install fresh from the dashboard.

Let me know if this helps. Sorry again for this silly issue.
