After upgrading to woo 3.4 and updating your plugin to 1.4.9, I’m now seeing an error when I try to do a sandbox Rest API credit card payment. Error simply says:

“Error processing checkout. Please try again.”

I also need clarification on something, as I can’t seem to find a straight answer anywhere: is the PayPal Credit Card (REST) method restricted to PayPal accounts in certain countries? I mean for the merchant’s PayPal account, i.e. can I use the Rest API for credit card payments on my store if my business PayPal account is in Israel?

    Thanks.

    Hi @jon-fergus,

Actually REST is only available in USA and US business account with DCC ( direct credit cards ) specially enabled in PayPal accounts. So any account outside US will not be able to process credit card REST.
But you can use Express Checkout with Guest checkout enabled to process Credit Card Payments. I have written a article here on how to setup that.

Let me know if you have any other questions about that.
    Thanks!

Thanks for clarifying. I had originally planned to use the PayPal Express gateway, but then we’re having the issue covered here: https://github.com/angelleye/paypal-woocommerce/issues/1104

If that compatibility fix can make it into the next update we’ll be able to setup Express and go with that. For now we’re stuck with PayPal Standard I think.

    Thanks again for the help.

Well, Yeah, we will look into that and see if there are any adjustments needed at our end then we will be happy to do so.

For this issue, I am going to go ahead and mark this as resolved now, but feel free to write here again if you have any other questions or concerns.
    Thanks!

Thanks Oliver. I appreciate your team’s support. It really is a great plugin. I just wish PayPal was able to offer better services for businesses where I live now.

If you still want to process creditcards then you can try Braintree, we have given that option too and with its drop-in UI you can accept credit cards still on your site.

Did you tried that? I am sure that option is going to work just fine for you.

I was hoping to try Braintree next, but apparently they aren’t available where we are (Israel) either.

As far as I can tell, PayPal Express and PayPal Standard will be the only options for us, at least for now.

    Thanks again.

@jon-fergus, Yes, unfortunately, it’s just limited where you’re at. Express Checkout should work well for you, though, and it has a lot of additional features and functionality that Standard does not have, so I would recommend sticking with it.
