Error: We’ve detected there’s already an existing Analytics tag on your site

Getting this message when trying to complete installation of Google Analytics on the Google Site Kit… “Error: We’ve detected there’s already an existing Analytics tag on your site (ID UA-180973431-1), but your account doesn’t seem to have access to this Analytics property”. I had Monster Insights free version installed before. Deactivated and deleted the Monster Insights plugin after installing Google Site Kit. Contacted Monster Insights for help and they told me that their Google tracking code should have been removed when I deleted their plugin so, no help there.
The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for reaching out. Hopefully we can assist and ensure you’re able to view the Analytics data within Site Kit for the property that’s already existing on your site, or help you determine the source of this property so you can remove it and add your own.
So we can assist with this please share the following:
- Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
- Do you have any other Google accounts? If so is it possible that you previously setup Google Analytics manually using another account. Alternatively if there are other administrators of your site they may have added a Google Analytics property themselves, connecting a property which you don’t have access to.
Once we have the above information we can advise further. We also have some documentation on this error you’re encountering, added to the plugin website.
I have other Google Accounts but I only signed up for Google Search Console using this email. Here’s my WordPress site health info…

Many thanks for sharing these additional details. I can see a non Site Kit snippet placed on your site, referring to the snippet in your support topic. From looking at the Site Health report you kindly shared it may be possible this snippet was added via the WP Global Site Tag plugin. Can you temporarily deactivate this plugin while I check your site once more? Let me know once you’ve done so and I’ll perform additional checks.
If we can determine the snippet was not placed via this plugin we can perform some additional checks. If we do determine the snippet was inserted via the WP Global Site Tag plugin I can assist you with determining any possible configuration changes to ensure you can select another property.
I’ve deactivated the WP Global Site Tag plugin.
Many thanks for the update. I’ve checked your site manually and also using the tagassistant.google.com service, and I can see the snippet remains. For that reason we’ll need to check other methods which may have been used to insert this snippet. It may have been added via the following:
- Manually inserted into your themes header.php file
- Added via a theme feature
- Added via your Rank Math plugin (Rank Math > General Settings > Analytics)
Let me know if you need any assistance checking the above.
Probably Rank Math Pro plugin would be my guess, if it’s not leftover from Monster Insights. The header.php file and theme have no snippets.
The tagassistant.google.com was added after the problem with the tracking code to possibly help with removing the tracking code.
Thanks for the update.
Probably Rank Math Pro plugin would be my guess, if it’s not leftover from Monster Insights. The header.php file and theme have no snippets.
If you want to check your settings now (Rank Math > General Settings > Analytics), or temporarily deactivate Rank Math and inform me once done I can take a look at your site once more.
@mattr1963 Just following up with you to check whether you’ve been able to determine the source of the additional snippet?
As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.
