Like a few other users I am unable to import code snippets exported using the same version of snippets. I am getting the following message: “An error occurred when processing the import files.
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/error-when-importing-snippets/
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/error-when-importing-snippets-2/

I am exporting from a production machine running version 3.2.2 to an identically configured staging machine running the same version.

I have tried exporting from the staging machine and reimporting into the same machine (running version 3.2.2) and I still get the same error – so it does not appear to be anything to do with moving code snippets from production to staging.

The code snippets are working in production, so I doubt that there are erroneous or invalid charactors in the code snippets themselves (otherwise php would generate an error)

I am unable to find a copy of code snippets version 2.14, which apparently is able to import successfully… So, I may have to manually copy each individual snippet code (and snippet name, and description) from production and create new snippets in staging and paste the code, name and description – which seems like the only way to go, albeit labourious and prone to introducing new errors.

  • Hello,
Indeed, I have the same problem. See my support request at:
Issue with importing Snippets | www.ads-software.com
I hope a solution can still be found soon. I was wondering if I was the only one with this problem.

I have a similar configuration to @alainmelsens, so I wonder if the plugin has platform specific defects. My stack is also a WIMP stack with the latest versions of WordPress and WooCommerce:

    • Windows Server 2019
    • IIS 10
    • MySQL 8.0.25
    • PHP 7.4.21

Is there any news about this yet? Apparently support doesn’t want to serve everyone here?
I do find this very frustrating. Because apparently this is a serious problem considering there are several similar questions.

I tried a similar free code snippets plugin that also has import and export capabilities. This one is called “WPCode – Insert Headers and Footers + Custom Code Snippets – WordPress Code Manager”. It can be found at:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/insert-headers-and-footers/
I tested the export and import and it does work fine. So there is clearly a problem here with this plugin.
I plan to transfer all my previous PHP code snippets to this other plugin. Will be some work, but maybe safer. This other one already has over a million users. So might also be better…

Sadly this is not fixed… and it does not appear that the developers care enough to try to fix it.

I guess there comes a point in the life of some popular plugins when one or two more 1-star ratings are not going to make a material difference in the overall ratings/pupularity of the plugin… so the developers become apathetic about issues that do not affect their bottom line.

The only suggestion that I can make is to fall back to a version before 2.14.4, do the snippet import, and then update to the latest version again.

Thanks for the heads-up on WPCode – Insert Headers and Footers + Custom Code Snippets – WordPress Code Manager. We did briefly look into it, but we had already purchased a license for Code Snippets Pro, so it would only have been worth it if there was a serious defect in Code Snippets that we could not get around.

I think that we will also look into moving over to WPCode just before the annual license renewal kicks in… Please let me know what the user support is like.

Hello all, apologies for the lack of resolution on this.

I have been looking into the issue ever since it was first reported. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to reproduce the problem, either locally or on production sites.

Can I ask those affected which version of the plugin they are running (free or pro), and perhaps also for an example of the file that is not importing correctly.

Additionally, when importing, which of the ‘duplicate snippets’ options are you selecting? Are you importing into a fresh site with no snippets, or a site with snippets already installed.

I am very keen to get to the heart of this issue and sort it out, but unfortunately without being able to reproduce the problem myself there’s not a lot I can do to resolve things.

    Hello @flytrap21, @alainmelsens,

I’ve been doing some further digging, and I believe I have worked out what is causing the problem.

A fix will be included in the next plugin release, version 3.3.0.

If either of you are able to try it out and let me know if it fixes things, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for persisting with this for so long!
