Error when trying to connect to amazon associates

I have WP 4.7.1 woocommerce 2.6.13
i have signed up for amazon associates and product advertising api.

I have tried creating multiple Access Key ID & Secret Access Key and i get the below error. I have used these keys in another plugin without woocommerce integration and it works fine. please assist

WooCommerce Amazon Affiliates was not able to connect to Amazon with the specified AWS Key Pair and Associate ID. Please triple-check your AWS Keys and Associate ID.
aws:Client.RequiresSSL: SSL connection required for SOAP authentication.
