Error when trying to upload images

  • I’m getting the following message when I try to upload a picture.

    Unable to create directory /home/strikemm/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2008/12. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Anyone know what this means? I tried changing the permission of the 2008 folder, uploads folder, and even the entire wp-content folder to 777 and still i get the error.

    How to solve this

    One way is to manually create the directory you need. I had to do that a couple of times several versions back.

    I have tried creating a folder named 12 in the 2008 folder. but It still gives the same error.

    Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

    The uploads folder, the 2008 folder and the 12 should be 755. The images themselves should be 644.

    The message means just what it says – somewhere your permissions are wrong. If you created a 12 in the 2008, then the 2008 permissions are correct so check the 12 and uploads. If it would not let you created a 12 folder then the 2008 permissions are wrong.

    I just checked my permissions for all the folder. Everything seems to be correct…. =[

    Could it be a problem with my host? I’m willing to pay anyone here who can actually come in and fix this for me as my employees cant post articles without being able to upload pictures.

    Yes, the problem is with your host. Your hostingprovider should turn off safe-mode in php.

    I just searched my webhost (godaddy) online help section and found the topic of safe-mode php and they said

    No, we do not run PHP in safe mode on our Linux hosting servers.

    So i guess that’s not it =[

    argh- I am so not a techie, I dont even understand most of these “helpful hints”. What I do understand is this issue is rampant & it seems, in my case at least, that altho nothing changed on the clients end, things that worked fine last time I revised my pages, dont work at all now. Does that say that it may be an internal WP issue, & not everyone elses issue for so many various reasons? It shouldnt be sooooo complicated, should it?

    I don’t understand what your tying to say.

    I did resolve it finally. I turned of the feature in Settings–>Misc that makes folders based on the month you upload the pictures. Apparently folder privileges are not propagating.

    I also fixed the comments problem by fixing a problem with my themes. Apparently a file had been deleted from the theme. Now I just need to worry about the security of my site.
