Error when updating new role

  • I’m having trouble creating a new role and making it stick. Here’s the steps I’ve taken:

    Create new role
    Copy existing role
    Message appears that role was created successfully
    Tick or untick desired capabilities
    Update
    Confirm permissions update
    Message appears that says role has been updated
    Go to users to assign new role
    The role is not there

    Then I tried:

    Create new role (without copying any existing role)
    Message appears that role was created successfully
    Tick or untick desired capabilities
    Update
    Confirm permissions update
    Message appears that says “Error occured during role(s) update”

    (FYI – occured is spelled wrong in that notification)

    I’ve tried many times and I just cannot make it work!

    What role ID and role name do you use when create a new role?
    Is this new created role available if you reopen User Role Editor?

    No … I should have mentioned that previously. When I create the role by copying an existing one, it looks like it’s working fine until I go to the users to assign it. Then I find it’s not there and when I go back to User Role Editor, it’s not there either.

    I tried a bunch of different names including “marketing”, “marketing-admin”, “test”, etc. and nothing worked.

    Try to deactivate temporally all plugins except URE and select WordPress built-in theme, like 2017. Will this problem go out? If Yes, activate plugins back one by one to isolate a source of the conflict. I will try to reproduce this issue at my dev. environment then.
