I attempted to updated my WP install to 4.5.3 today. I ran the one-click updater which ran until I received a “File Not Found” error in my browser:

Firefox can’t find the file at https://www.mywebsiteurl.com/wp-admin/update-core.php?action=do-core-update

However, when I logged back into the admin side, everything was fine and it indicated that I was running the latest version of WordPress.

Is this true? Did the update go OK? What was the error about?

I need to update some plugins, but I’m hesitating in case there is something inherently wrong/unstable with my system.

Seems like it went ok. Visit /wp-admin/upgrade.php in your browser just to be sure.

When I do that I get a blank page.

Oh wait, sorry. I tried update.php, not upgrade. /wp-admin/upgrade.php says I’m up to date.

Any idea what generated that error though?

To be honest, I’m not sure. That would only appear if the update-core.php file was not installed, but then again I’d expect to see the same error when manually visiting /wp-admin/upgrade.php so this will probably have to remain a mystery.

The good news is though, everything seems to be working and up-to-date. ??
