• Hi
I updated to version 3.5 yesterday as well as uploading the latest theme update from developer and now have strange errors occurring. I have been on my theme support forum and no one else seems to have incurred any problems (so I’m assuming the theme itself is compatible with WordPress 3.5)
The WordPress update seems to have updated fine, however, when I click on some functions in the admin panel (left sidebar) I get a message that says “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
This happens when I click on most tabs like Appearance, Settings and My Theme Options.
When I click on Pages I get the message “Cheatin’ uh?” This also happens on a couple of other links.
I have tried to find a solution for this but not getting any answers.
I was thinking that maybe I could try and reinstall the previous version of WordPress with my backup of theme and start again. Any pointers on doing this would be great or if there is an answer to why I may be receiving these messages.
Looking forward to some help with this as I cannot move forward.
    Many Thanks.

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Thanks Esmi for your reply.
I have gone through the points mentioned and now have a page that says

“There doesn’t seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started.

Need more help? We got it.

You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn’t work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file.

    Create a Configuration File”

Next set of pointers would be great. Thanks.

Did you delete your wp-config.php file?

Not if I had followed the instructions you gave.

I deleted all files and folders other than wp-content and replaced them with the new files and folders, so assume wp-content is the same.
Perhaps I have deleted wp-config.php in amongst this but didn’t realise I shouldn’t have. What now?

    @ Esmi
Tried to get someone to help me with this issue but it’s happening so attempting it myself. I have a backup of my database and theme files.
So WordPress has noted that there is no wp-config.php file and wants to configure it.
I’ve gone through the database name, user, password etc and now have the next page saying to INSTALL NOW.
My question is surely this is then going to overwrite wp-content which you mentioned not to replace in your earlier response.
Can I just copy the folder wp-content and replace it with the new one once the installation is complete. I have to get this right.

You need to recreate your wp-config.php file manually using a plain text editor and then upload it to your site using FTP. You can use wp-config-sample.php as a template.

    Thanks for your quick response.

Okay I did that and now still get the error:

“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
This is from when I am trying to login into wp-admin.

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

I’ve added “-old” to my theme folder and reset the plugins folder by adding “.hold” to it.

Now when I try to login into wp-admin I can get in but the dashboard tells me:

“ERROR: The themes directory is either empty or doesn’t exist. Please check your installation.”

On the left sidebar the only options I have are:

    Dashboard
    Posts
    Comments
    Profile
    Tools

Re-upload a fresh, unpacked, copy of the Twenty Twelve folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    Hi Esmi
I’m seriously at my wits end now. I’ve tried to do what you’ve suggested and still end up with errors, or Update WordPress Database, etc – I’m getting to the point where I’m not sure what’s going on anymore.
If I have all my original theme files backed up as well as my database backed up. Can I not just do a wordpress reinstall completely – creating the database again etc and then import my database and copy over my theme files.
I’m so far behind on this since updating to version 3.5 it’s starting freak me out. I cannot move forward.
Is there no way someone can look into this for me?
Thanks for your support so far.

Just wondering if there are any other solutions for me to get my site working again.

In your wp-config.php file , name and password of your wordpress data are stored. This should match with the name and password of your database on the server.
You can get the site back by uploading files to server and setting the right database password.
