I’ve never had issues with this plugin before. But suddenly, only errors appear when analyzing readability:

FeedbackAn error occurred in the ‘textSentenceLength’ assessment
FeedbackAn error occurred in the ‘textTransitionWords’ assessment
FeedbackAn error occurred in the ‘passiveVoice’ assessment
FeedbackAn error occurred in the ‘sentenceBeginnings’ assessment

The plugin is fully up-to-date. What’s happening?

That is indeed strange. Sometimes strange behavior may be caused by a plugin or theme conflict. The fastest way to rule out conflicts is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Sixteen. If this resolves the issue, you have a conflict and should activate one plugin at a time until you locate the conflict. Finally, after all plugins are active, switch to your theme. This will narrow down the conflict to a specific plugin or theme.

If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we wrote a small guide that will walk you through the steps. You can find it here: How To Check For Plugin Conflicts

Hi @amboutwe, thanks for your prompt response!

I’ve gone through my logs and nothing’s changed since the error began (i.e. no new plugins, theme updates, etc.). I’d hate to disable all my plugins since not everything reenables with previous settings.

Have you seen this issue occur with other users since the latest Yoast update?

We have and, unfortunately, it’s usually something specific in your content or a conflict with another plugin or theme function. If the errors happen across all of your content, it’s most likely a conflict. If it happens only to certain pieces of content, it could be the content itself.

A quick way to test without disabling everything would be to start a new post/page and type a simple sentence like, “My website runs on WordPress.” Does the error occur? Is yes, it’s a conflict with plugin or theme and conflict check is the next step. Otherwise it’s the content of the post/page with the error so removing parts of the content on a post/page with the issue will narrow down the specific part that causes the error.

Additionally, it may be preferable that you set up a staging environment for your tests so you don’t have to worry about losing your settings for other plugins. If you’re not familiar with a staging site, this article will help you get started: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/

    Hi @amboutwe,

Thanks for your tips, I think I’ve found the issue:

I’m using a plugin called “Huge-IT Google Map” which allows you to insert a responsive map snippet into WP posts. Upon removing its short-code, the readability errors disappear.

I tested this on another post utilizing the same short-code, and its returning the same errors.

Over 50,000+ installs of “Huge-IT Google Map”. I imagine that’s a serious conflict for many!

Can you please submit that to our GitHub repository for Yoast SEO? Thanks!

As the issue is a conflict with another plugin, we highly recommend reporting the issue to the development or support team of the other plugin. Having both teams work on the issue is a benefit to you.

If you have not submitted an issue previously, this guide will help you submit a complete report which may result in a faster resolution.

Thanks @amboutwe. I’ve filed s ticket for “Huge-IT Google Map”:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/disables-yoast-seo-analysis/

I have not filed a ticket for “GitHub repository for Yoast SEO” as it seems to require a GitHub account. Is that necessary? I really try to keep my registrations to a minimum…

GitHub is where all bugs reports, feature requests and our code “lives”. We understand wanting to keep registrations to a minimum so I’ve opened a report. As you don’t have a GitHub account, you’ll manually have to check for updates from the GitHub site. I’ve also commented on the report to Huge-IT Google Map so we don’t open up multiple reports.
