Errors when opening BackWPUp .zip files
-
I am still getting multiple errors when I try to open a .zip file generated by BackWPUp.
From the “backups” screen in BackWPUp, I select the backup I want to download and click “download.” Then I get a “please wait” window followed by something saying “your download has been generated and will begin downloading.”
Then I get a .zip file, but when I try to open it in Windows, I get the following error message:
Windows cannot open the folder.
The Compressed (zipped) Folder
‘C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\[backup-filename].zip’ is invalid. Please note that no extraction program (such as WinRAR or 7Zip) should be required to open a .zip file in Windows.
When I use 7Zip to extract the .zip file (which, again, should not be necessary), I get the following error message:
1 C:\Uders\xxx\Desktop\[backup-filename].zip
Headers Error
Unconfirmed start of archive
Warnings:
There are some data after the end of the payload data
2 Data error: wp-content\plugins\virtue-toolkit\cmb\languages\cmb2-th.po7Zip extracts the .zip file but it is incomplete: everything that would come after the file referred to in line 2 above is missing from the .zip file.
When I try to do the same thing with a completely different website, hosted with a different hosting company, on a different WP theme, I get the same results. The error message from 7Zip refers to a different plugin file that it’s hanging up on, but other than that it’s exactly the same.
The backups that are being generated are incomplete and not usable. This is a big problem and needs to be fixed.
HOWEVER, the same .zip files, when downloaded directly from DropBox instead of from the WordPress dashboard, are fine: they open in Windows without using an extraction program, and the files are complete.
So whatever is going wrong, is probably happening during that “please wait” window when you go to download a backup file from the dashboard. I hope this helps you pinpoint the problem and fix it.
I would appreciate a reply to this post acknowledging that the problem exists and that you’re working on it. Thanks!
