  • Hi @spidermanph. We appreciate the feedback and details about the problem you experienced and I’m sorry to hear about the poor experience with our plugin.

The error message indicates that the original Facebook App you configured with your WordPress Plugin was deleted. Unfortunately, this was an edge case which the latest version of the plugin didn’t account for but we’ve implemented a fix which will be included with the next version of the plugin.

Alternatively, if you are able to access the “All Settings” page for your WordPress installation (located at /wp-admin/options.php of your installation), find all the options which begin with instant-articles-option- and clear them out (don’t forget to click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom). This will force the plugin to revert to it’s initial state when you first installed it.

    Paulo,

    Here’s what I get.

How do I do your alternative option?

@spidermanph can you confirm which version of the plugin you currently have?

    Its 3.1.1, the latest one.

Should I just clear the value in all instant-article fields?

Or, should I wait for the next update?

The latest version is 3.1.3. In this version, you should have an option called instant-articles-current-state, and you’d only have to clear out that value.

If you don’t have this value, you should only have to clear out the following in order to revert the Setup Wizard:

    • instant-articles-option-fb-app
    • instant-articles-option-fb-page

Note, you’ll have to input your App ID and App Secret and reconnect to your Facebook page — essentially, you’ll have to go through the setup flow again. I recommend copying the values of those options to a local text file before clearing them out just to have their values for reference.

Let me know how it goes.

No magic Paulo. I had to remove the plugin through cPanel’s File Manager.

So sorry about that! Without any values for the setting options, the plugin won’t attempt to connect to Facebook which, in turn, wouldn’t allow for the possibility of the exception to occur. I’ve confirmed this locally so I don’t yet understand why the exception error was still thrown for you.

Ok, so you’ve removed the plugin entirely. This will obviously do the trick in terms of preventing the error from appearing.

The next planned release (which includes the fix) is scheduled for early next week. If this is an acceptable time frame for you and you’re more comfortable with that solution, we can wait until then. If not, I’m happy to look into your particular case more closely. For the latter, it would help if you can send me:

    – The exact version of your plugin
    – Which options that start with instant-articles-option- in your “All Settings” page (/wp-admin/options.php)
    – The value of the app_id parameter within the instant-articles-option-fb-app option
