Sorry guys, but things just got too serious with that “s7.addthis.com” website that the Sharebuttons plugin calls up. ESET Antivirus now classifies the call to that site as a possible trojan, gives you a warning, and stops the connection.

Seems to be a false positive, but, my users don’t know that. So I’m pulling Sharebuttons by Addthis off all my sites until the problem is fixed, before my traffic goes to hell. If ESET is complaining, the Google police are not going to be too far behind!

If you want to see an example, load up your copy of ESET Antivirus, and try visiting a site that uses the plugin (I get the problem on https://www.krion.com/en/). Or by visiting https://www.addthis.com, I get the same warning from ESET Antivirus.

The plugin is awesome, but that call to s7.addthis.com isn’t. Please let us know when it’s fixed!

    Hi @mmelendeze,

We spoke with ESET last week and they confirmed that this is a false positive:

They said that you will have to update your ESET software (especially the detection engine) for this false alarm to stop.

    Thanks,

Will do, hope that fixes the problem not just for me but for everyone else. In the end, it’s no good if the website’s users don’t update and keep receiving the message!

@mmelendeze we hear your frustration and unfortunately there is nothing that we can do to alleviate this issue as this is ESET’s false behavior. If you would like for this to not happen again in the future, you can voice your opinion to ESET’s team to let them know that their false reporting is causing many problems for you and your users.

    Thanks,
    Leland

I think I’ll do that. The Sharebuttons plugin is awesome and has served me well for quite a while now! I hate to see something like this happen…
