• This plugin is an essential part of the free, open source contact form system for WordPress that starts with Contact Form 7 and eventually contains all the features the expensive ones have.

The essential part of the jigsaw this one adds is the ability to put fields side by side, without having to learn some (fairly complex) HTML layout rules. It also adds a GUI, without which many users would just give up on CF7.

Aurovrata works really hard at fixing problems, even when they’re caused by upstream changes he has no control over.

The interface is a little confusing and there’s work still to do, for example to support conditional groups properly but these are minor quibbles.

I know of no other way of doing all this in a free system that also (using other plugins) supports conditional groups, CiviCRM integration, submission logging and so on. Caldera Forms used to come close but it was more limited and has now been withdrawn anyway.

Why is “free” important? Because annual renewal is a pain for maintenance, many sites don’t have the visitors to justify the cost, a huge user base is important for driving features and finding bugs, because open source code can be fixed quickly and so on.`

Hey @phil-mckerracher thank you for the detailed review.

The interface is a little confusing and there’s work still to do,

agreed, unfortunately UI interface is not my forte. This is something I would love to hand over to someone else to contribute and develop.

for example to support conditional groups properly but these are minor quibbles.

interesting. I assume that you have used conditional fields for cf7 plugin which is fine for integrating into a text editor, but is messy on the UI.

I had suggested to the author of conditional fields to collaborate on this and other functionality but didn’t get any replies, I think he is just too busy.

So I have been toying with the idea of implementing my own conditional functionality which would allow a much better integration into the UI.

CiviCRM integration, submission logging and so on

if you have other ideas, so raise them as enhancement issues on the GitHub repo

Why is “free” important? Because annual renewal is a pain for maintenance,

maybe a recurring donation is easier ??

@phil-mckerracher some of us are discussing improvements to the UI. One user has proposed a detailed re-structuring of the UI and this is something I would prefer to finalise with inputs from other users. Do join the conversation on GitHub
