    Hi,

I recently noticed when sharing links in slack the new enhancements but my site is showing:

    Est. Reading Time 0 Minutes

I also checked out the article https://yoast.com/help/enhanced-slack-sharing/.

I’m wondering if it’s possible to learn more about that calculation or tweak it or maybe there is just an issue on my site?

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the new estimated reading time feature when sharing a page on Slack.

The issue you experiencing typically occurs when Yoast SEO fails to detect contents correctly from the relevant page. Can you please confirm whether you are running a page builder plugin on the relevant page that you have used to write the content? If yes, which one did you use?

On the other hand, can you please confirm whether you have performed the SEO data optimization from the SEO → Tools page?

Last but not least, can you please confirm whether the issue is only specific to the page that you have shared with us or the issue specific to all of the pages available on your site?

We look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Md Mazedul Islam Khan and thanks for the reply.

First, I’d like to say I am not the website developer but I can try to answer these questions.

Most of the site is made with custom post types which look to all have this same “0 minutes” reading time.

I tested a WordPress Page and it only displays “Written by” and not “Est. reading time”.

Some plugins I believe are involved with content areas include “Classic Editor”, “Black Studio TinyMCE Widget”, “Custom Post Type UI”.
The site is not using standard builders like Elementor, Divi, WPbakery, etc.

I didn’t notice the “Optimize SEO Data” tool. Is it fairly new? I ran it but it did not change the estimate reading time when shared in Slack.

Additionally, can you provide insight into how this value is calculated?

    Thanks again for your help

    Hi @robteee,

It looks like the estimated reading time is based on the words found in the page content.

If the text in the page is added using shortcodes, widgets like the Black Studio TinyMCE widget, or custom fields, Yoast SEO wouldn’t be able to recognize that text since that isn’t stored in the page content.

If you’re using the official Classic Editor plugin and are adding content in the page editor, you may need to do a conflict check to see if other plugins or your theme are interfering with Yoast SEO.

If you’d like to disable the Slack integration that generates the estimated reading time, you can do so by going to SEO > General > Integrations.

    Hope that helps!
