I run two wordpresses on the same server. Both are at version 2.8. I relatively recently upgraded the wordpress in question from the legacy 2.0.11 to 2.8.4 (and am just a little nervous about having to upgrade YET AGAIN to 2.8.5 – but that’s another story.) With some difficulty, I managed to change the database character sets to UTF-8.

On both wordpresses, I have Alex Tingle’s Event Calendar 3 installed. On the most recently upgraded wordpress, the calendar appears to be broken; no post dates show at all. (On the other wordpress that has database tables not yet changed to UTF-8, the event-calendar is working perfectly well.)

I don’t know how long it has been broken but I’m relatively certain that it was working until a few days ago (well after the database character set change). For now, I have disabled the event calendar from being displayed on the main sidebar but have left the broken event calendar on the sidebar of the “events category” page for people to see exactly what I’m droning on about.

I’d ask in the event calendar forum but there has been zero activity there since September. I would prefer not to change to a different plugin, if at all possible.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Since asking this question, I have upgraded to 2.8.5.

I also disabled plugins one by one to see if there was conflict and I checked for coding errors using the validator at w3.org. It made no difference to the calendar.

I did try to ask in the eventcalendar maillist but it appears to be broken; my email did not go through.

I also tried to leave a comment on the eventcalendar site but registration is required to comment and there is no registration link.

Upgrading to the beta version of event calendar only threw errors.

    Very frustrating.

Your category archive page for events doesn’t appear broken. Or at least it looks like mine does for as long as I’ve used EC3. What do you think is broken? It’s not throwing errors.

The beta works just fine on my setup (WP 2.8.5, php 5.2.9 mysql 5.0.81 UTF8). 3.1.4 also works fine. I think the Big Calendar feature needs php5.

The sidebar calendar is broken on the category archive page for events. Note that it appears there are zero posts made, no matter what month is chosen.

    Specifically, the following coding

    ec3_get_calendar();

is simply producing a calendar with zero links.

etherwork.net/blog/ (calendar on sidebar is called up with get_calendar(); so it doesn’t have the nifty popup tooltips)

etherwork.net/blog/?cat=4 (event calendar category page with broken calendar on the sidebar called up with ec3_get_calendar();)

I’m happy to report that ec3.14 and wp2.8.5 are working correctly now. I have no idea what changed but suddenly the calendar is working again.

The only thing I did today was to upgrade two non-active plugins. Very strange.
