• It’s my understanding that the “[event_rocket_list]” shortcode works with the unpaid version of The Event Calendar (v 3.6.1). Is that correct? If so, I can’t get it to work. When I enter the shortcode into a page there’s no output, only the shortcode text itself.

As I said, I’m using v 3.6.1 of The Event Calendar, and v 1.5.1 of Event Rocket and both plugins are activated in WP v 3.9.1. Just to make sure that shortcodes were in fact working properly I added a shortcode test to functions.php and the shortcode test worked on the same page where the event_rocket_list shortcode didn’t work, so I’m assuming that there’s nothing wrong with the theme or other plugins.

I’d really like this to work, so I’m hoping you can give me some help or suggestions.

    Thanks…

I too would be interested in understanding why this is not working. I am having the same issue.

Sorry for the delay Susan, I see this was sitting for a number of days – unfortunately I don’t have much availability this month.

That said, if I spin up a quick test where I’m running only the latest versions of The Events Calendar (free/core version only), Event Rocket and Twenty Thirteen it “just works”.

Is it possible something else that’s active on your site – whether another plugin or your theme – is interfering? Or, if you look at the plugin admin screen, are there any notices that refer to Event Rocket?

When I enter the shortcode into a page there’s no output, only the shortcode text itself.

It definitely sounds as if the shortcode isn’t being registered, so execution must be stopping short of the code that handles that … in asking my next question I’m aware that this may seem a “no brainer” – but is Event Rocket definitely activated?

    Hi Barry,

Thanks for your reply. Event Rocket is *definitely* activated. And another no-brainer: The shortcode I used is [event_rocket_list] and not [event_rocket-list] as I mistyped in my original subject line.

I thought perhaps that there might be a jquery problem (there had been in the site theme, which I fixed by installed the WP UI plugin), so I deactivated the WP UI plugin to see if that made a difference. It didn’t.

I also tried the site with the 2013 theme and that didn’t work either: I still got just the shortcode text.

I was really hoping that I would find other shortcodes not working, but so far I’ve been able to get the shortcode test to work via functions.php, and as well I’ve tried other event list plugins and they all work when I add their shortcodes directly below the Event Rocket shortcode: the event lists and/or calendars show up while the Event Rocket shortcode just sits there in plain text glory.

    Strange.

Are you happy to share admin+FTP access? I’d love to take a look if I could. If you are happy to do so – though bear in mind I might not be able to do anything immediately as I’m fairly short on time this month – please just get in touch via my contact page.

    Thanks!

    Hi Barry,

OK, I got this figured out, but not really. I was doing my testing on a local WAMP sever setup (Apache 2.4.2, Mysql 5.5.27, php 5.4.6) when I couldn’t get the Event Rocket shortcode to work (even though all other shortcodes I tried did work). Just to see if it made a difference I went to the live site and installed both The Event Calendar and Event Rocket plugins and the shortcode worked(!) I have no idea why it would work on the live site but not on the local version. The local version has full access to the net so any remote handshaking would have taken place (ie, things like remotely loading Google jquery and fonts work fine).

That is strange, but might tie in with what was reported in this thread:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/short-code-does-not-work-displays-as-text

The local version has full access to the net so any remote handshaking would have taken place (ie, things like remotely loading Google jquery and fonts work fine).

Hmm, though it doesn’t really do anything like that – it simply queries the db for relevant events. Honestly I’m pretty puzzled by this … locally or remotely I see no problem at all.
