I am allowing anonymous user submissions and the page does show up for guest users. When they submit an event they receive the “Your event will be posted pending review” message or whatever it says. However, the event is posted automatically every time. My admin email receives a message saying that a new event was added.

When I look at Events > Settings > User Capabilities, the only users who have ANY access are administrator and editor.

Any idea why these postings aren’t going into a pending status? Thanks!

  • Is there any chance these are logged in users (with a different user role)?

Can you share a screenshot of your User Capabilities panel? Thanks.

I just opened a different browser and submitted an event while logged out. It still got auto posted. Here’s a screenshot of my user capabilities panel…thanks!

Sorry to be a pain but can you share a second screenshot that shows the lower part of that screen? Thanks.

Do you have any other plugins running that deal with user roles or permissions?

Not a pain at all…I appreciate the help.

The rest of the User Capabilities are ALL unchecked. I can post screenshots if you want though.

I am running bbPress, buddyPress and a directory plug in as well. I suppose I could deactivate each one and see if it corrects the approval issue I’m having.

is user capability publish_events is unchecked ?

    Thread Starter getgolfed

    (@getgolfed)

Yeah it is unchecked. I just unchecked every single box except for the Administrator ones…same issue. Thanks again for the help.

Hmmm… What use role is allocated to the users who are submitting the events?

Honestly I’m not sure…is that a setting somewhere? As far as I know I haven’t changed that. I’m opening a different browser, making sure I’m not logged in and posting as a complete guest as far as I can tell.

you can see that settings under Events > Settings > General > Event Submission Forms > Guest Default User

    Note:
We recommend you create a “Anonymous” subscriber with a very good password and use that. Guests will have the same event permissions as this user when submitting.

I created an anonymous account but now the “Submit Event” page shows the following…

    Unauthorized Access

You do not have the rights to manage this Event.

We’re on the right track though…the events submitted by random users were being posted under the administrator account. Now I just need to know how to give “Subscribers” the ability to submit events but not publish them immediately.

Do you have Allow anonymous event submissions? set to Yes under Events > Settings > General > Event Submissions Forms?

    Thread Starter getgolfed

    (@getgolfed)

Yeah I’m allowing anonymous event submissions.

Seemed like creating the anonymous user account should have done the trick…but now you can’t even get to the submit event page as a guest. Odd.

are you sure that you enabled ‘Allow anonymous event submissions’ to Yes and then assign a dummy subscriber role to ‘Guest Default User’ ?

    Yep…

and the “anonymous” user is listed as a “subscriber” account which has no posting capabilities…
