try Events > Settings > Formatting > Date/Time

I have that set to l, F jS, Y

which gives Sunday, July 14th, 2013 at 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
but the main heading is still
Jul 2013

I am using [events_list_grouped mode="monthly" country="UK"]

Hi that works, but it now puts it into a table format rather than free text if that makes sense

you need something like
