    Hello,

We have The Events Calendar, Events Tickets, Event Tickets Plus….we use a Development website for testing purposes…and then we have the Live website.

The Development website is used for testing and in theory should not require a license.

Do you guys have an option for us to use a Dev site without a paid license?

    Thanks for your feedback.

Hi @smartfinds – the following knowledgebase article should answer your question:

    theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/using-one-license-live-dev-sites

If you need further help then please do let us know … however, with www.ads-software.com forum rules in mind, it’s generally best to ask any questions relating to premium plugins or premium plugin licensing over here ??

    Thanks!

    Hi Barry,

    Thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunatley, this doesn’t help us. We have no intention of buying another domain name to suit the needs of the developers of The Events Calendar.

Yoast seems to handle dev or staging sites just fine by having them acknowledged as such.

We have always used dev.(domain) or staging.(domain) sub-domains for this purpose….AND…we additionally set the option in settings that search engines are disallowed from indexing the site.

I mean…what business has a live website at dev.(domain) or staging.(domain) This solution of buying another domain is useless and doesn’t even make sense…especially when other developers seem to have simpler solutions.

Sorry…have to agree to disagree on this solution. These guys need to go back to the drawing board.

    Hi @smartfinds,

On further review, the article I linked to admittedly isn’t explicit about this so I’ll make a note for us to revise it. However, to be clear, there is generally no reason for you to add a license to a staging or dev site in the first place.

If you do have a need for this (perhaps you need automated updates there in addition to on your production site) then the knowledgebase article I linked to explains what is currently needed. Otherwise, you can simply install the plugin without providing the license key.

I hope that clarifies things and if you have further questions feel free to ask (though I would again emphasize that the www.ads-software.com forums are not the best venue for doing so) ??
