    Hello everyone,

Since yesterday I got my wordpress hosting working and I got started with making my website immediately! I am using elementor to edit the pages and envato elements for a template.
I created a page, imported an envato element and starting editing it.
Then all of the sudden everything is gone. I didn’t know what to think of it, thought it was something on my end, and started over. Did the same thing, again everything suddenly disappeared around the same stage, not after doing the same thing. Then I decided to try it as a template, eventually everything got deleted again!

In the first two cases the page was directly coupled to my live homepage, so after making a change I would look at the website to see how it looks on the live version. This is how I would find out everything is gone, because it would be blank except for a footer. In the editor it was still there, until I refresh. I could still make changes and publish them but the live website would not show anything anymore.

Eventually I found the revisions button, on both pages and the 1 template you see in the revisions that all of the sudden everything gets deleted but I don’t understand why! Reversing it to that revision doesn’t work, it makes everything look weird and compact.

I removed all the plugins that i tried but deactivated and tried again, didn’t work.
I switched a new theme (from OceanWP to Hello Elementor) still did not work.
    This is getting rather annoying…

I have no clue what to do, I hope someone can help me out :/

  • Hi, right now, I see a site that is empty, except for one line. I can imagine this is very very frustrating!

But to me, this sounds like an issue with your hosting company. I think you should contact them. Because Elementor does not erase files.

Thank you for your response Anne-Mieke,
What kind of issue do you think this is? Something with permissions, storage, database model…?

I am currently running a unmanaged VPS, so they will most likely not help me ??

I’d like to point you to a Facebook group called WordPress Hosting: https://www.facebook.com/groups/494572587341133

Best thing to do is to describe what kind of hosting you have, and what steps you took already, like you did here. The more you elaborate, the easier people can help you.

Don’t only mention unmanaged VPS, but also what interface you have. cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, etc. and what you are experiencing.

At risk of sounding like Captain Obvious: Don’t allow anyone you don’t know and trust to access your server. I’ve been all over the place with my unmanaged VPS’s and at some point I realized that it’s a toy best left untouched unless you understand what you’re doing. I ended up hiring a great Dutch consultant who guided me through the entire process.

PS If you do find a solution, would you be so kind to let me know, here?

Thank you Anne-Mieke, I will join that facebook group and ask my question. Will let you know what the solution is to my problem once i figure that out.

    Hi,
Can you please tell me if editing without the template results in the same outcome?

Please delete Elementor and clear cache, then reinstall and regenerate CSS.
Let me know if there is any change.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your reply.

Before I saw your message I increased the allocated ram to 128M.
I created a new page, started editing with Elementor, added an image and some text, after a couple of minutes everything was deleted again. So I moved on to deleting Elementor and Envato. Cleared my browser cache, reinstalled Elementor and regenerated CSS. At this point the only plugin installed and active is Elementor.

I created a new page again, started editing with Elementor, added some text, an image and a carousel but after literally 5 minutes the entire content was deleted again. Looks like the problem still persists. Hope you can help me out further!

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me ??

    Hi,
    Thank you for the reply.

    I appreciate you doing so.
I would like to let you know that the editor’s minimum need is 256 memory limit to load properly, you can see all requirements here –
    https://elementor.com/help/requirements/

Please let me know which carousel you were adding?

Thanks for your quick reply. Sorry for my late reply. I have spent the last 4 hours testing a lot of different stuff. All described below.
    In short:
Anything that has to do with a Envato template does not work.
The only thing that works is creating a new page with Elementor when it is the only plugin enabled.

I will continue testing and let you know what else I find out. Hopefully you can help me further with the following, (very) in-depth information. Thanks in advance

I am writing this as I go so I won’t forget to mention anything.

I upgraded the memory to 256 and made another new page. I did the same thing as I did before, added a section with some text and an image, added another section for the carousel (found under general ‘Image Carousel’) and just kept going until everything would get deleted, but… that never seemed to happen. Eventually I got to the point where I was just adding random options because I didn’t know what to add anymore and it never deleted itself.

I tried everything to break it again, but after an hour it still works. So I decided to install Envato and essential addons for Elementor again and start working on the template that I wanted to use. After about 10 minutes everything was deleted again.
I looked into the envato settings and saw that my upload size limit was set at 2mb, I increased it to 100mb. Downloaded the template again and started over. Yet everything still got removed after a few minutes.

At this point the test page without a template still works, so I am getting the feeling it is a envato problem. To be sure I deactivate envato and make another test page using functions of Essentials Addons for Elementor. If this page also survives longer than usual then I know it is Envato who is screwing up.

After creating the new empty page, with no template, I started adding a section, with text and an image, went over to another section with a title and carousel. Everything OK so far, added another section with a title and text but after updating everything was removed again. So I suppose it might not be because of Envato, maybe it is Essential Addons for Elementor (even though I have not used any of their functions yet).

So now I will deactivate Essential Addons and activate Envato again. Create a new page, add a Envato template and start editing. After editing for a couple of minutes everything was once again removed. I guess both Envato and Essential Addons are causing the problem?

So I will deactivate both of them and make another page without a template to test. On this page everything got deleted aswell.

Next I will try to delete a plugin (essential addons), maybe it still interferes with the website even when being deactivated. I create another empty page, add some random stuff and this also seemed to continue to work. At this point I think that it only works when element or is the only active plugin and no other plugins are active for elementor. But I really want to use a template from Envato, so I willa activate it again, make a new page with a template and see what happens. On the last page I created I think it removed everything very, very quickly, but I’m not sure so I kind of started over again. Maybe this is the trick to a working page, starting over after getting reset.

So I created another page, added a Envato template and started editing. Eventually everything got removed again, I started over in the same page which worked for some reason (usually updating the page after everything getting removed does not work) but that also got removed again.

At this point I have 2 pages made with elementor without a template that are still alive.
So I guess Envato has to be deactivated to work, which is okay because the template I want to use is saved in the templates folder. Now I will try to deactivate the plugin and use the saved template instead of implementing the template using the envato plugin in the page.

So I create another page and try what I mentioned above. Also this did not work.
Now I removed Envato completely and saw that the homepage template was still saved in my templates folder. I decided to edit the template directly, instead of putting it on a page and then start to edit this. Also this did not work.
Anything that has to do with a Envato template does not work.
The only thing that works is creating a new page with Elementor as the only plugin enabled.

Also, I installed Malcare to run a (free) malware scan on the site, it did not indicate any corrupted files or malware. There are probably better scanners out there but none that are free as far as I could find. Thought it was worth a shot.

    Quick update:

At an attempt to try and just build the website from scratch (as I have been fiddling for quite a few hours now) I reinstalled Essential Addons for Elementor, which does seem to work when working on a page with no template. I don’t want to be too happy, will see tomorrow morning if everything is still there…

    Thread Starter o0llied

    (@o0llied)

I guess i spoke to soon. The page removed all of it’s contents again and I have removed Essential Addons for Elementor once again. Now the only page that is still standing is the one I created to test the 256MB. Will continue from there and see what happens….

    Thread Starter o0llied

    (@o0llied)

Now also that page has died…
No clue where to go from here. I guess it is an Elementor issue? Would buying Pro make any difference with this issue?

    Last update:
Regenerated CSS and tried to make another page from scratch, this did not work.
    I am clueless… :'(

I’m so sorry to hear that! Can you share your system info with us? In case you don’t know how, here’s a short tutorial about how to do that. https://youtu.be/DTkUgppRn6Y

Make sure you copy it from the area way down at the bottom of the system information page, as that leaves out some sensitive information.

    Cheers,

    Anne-Mieke

The PostgreSQL seems to be your issue!

Currently, the official WordPress distribution only supports the MySQL and MariaDB database engines. A number of people have requested support for other database engines, particularly the open-source PostgreSQL.

I suggest you install it again, using good old MySQL.
